What I liked learning about this year is how our electricity is made. I liked learning about wind power the most because in my opinion I think it is the best power source. I think it is the best power source because it is free, it does not pollute the air, and it does not require a lot of land. It was interesting to learn about how the taller tower is the more electricity it will produce because the higher you go in the air the more wind there is. I found out that different wind companies use different materials for their blades because some materials may not be available in their areas. I learned that California and Texas are the main producers of wind powered electricity in the United States because the wind speeds are high in these states. I loved learning about how wind power is produced. It was interesting how the windmill turns that turns a turbine that turns a generator, inside the generator an electro-magnet turns around inside a coil of copper wire or the wire spins around the electro-magnet that makes electricity which creates electricity. In some cases I could use what I learned in real life situations. If I were to want to work for a wind company I would need to know how the electricity is created. If I lived on farm I might want to use wind power so I would need to know how tall the windmill should be so I could produce the right amount of electricity. In the situation that I would need to build a windmill for power I would need to know what metirials to use. The things I learned in class can help me in the real world. The sample piece that I am linking is my Solar Power brochure because I enjoyed learning about how solar power is created.
